What Is a Safety Certificate in Queensland?

A safety certificate is a legal document stating a vehicle meets Queensland’s minimum safety standards for road use. In Queensland, safety certificates replaced the old term ‘roadworthy certificate’, but both terms are still used.

You’ll need a valid safety certificate when:

  • Selling a registered vehicle
  • Transferring registration to a new owner
  • Re-registering a vehicle
  • Registering an unregistered vehicle
  • Transferring ownership between private sellers

The certificate is confirmation that your vehicle’s condition, safety systems and key components are safe for road use at the time of inspection.

Approved Safety Certificate Inspections for All Vehicles

Our workshop is an authorised inspection station under Queensland Transport requirements. We carry out safety certificate inspections for:

  • Light vehicles
  • Cars
  • Utes
  • 4WDs
  • SUVs

Every inspection is completed by a licensed vehicle tester who understands Queensland regulations and inspection standards.

What’s Included in Our Roadworthy Inspection?

Our roadworthy certificate inspection is far more than a quick check. We conduct a detailed vehicle inspection and assess all required safety-related items, including:

  • Brakes, brake lights and brake components
  • Tyres, steering and suspension
  • Windscreen, rear window wipers and reflectors
  • Windscreen wipers and washers
  • Lights, indicators and electrical systems
  • Seatbelts and safety restraints
  • Body condition
  • Engine condition and leaks
  • General mechanical condition

These roadworthy inspection checks ensure your vehicle is mechanically sound, safe to drive and meets Queensland standards.

What Happens If Your Vehicle Passes or Fails?

If Your Vehicle Passes

If your vehicle passes the inspection, we issue a valid safety certificate immediately. The certificate remains valid for:

  • 2 months or 2,000 kilometres (private sellers), whichever comes first

This certificate can then be used to complete registration transfer or sale.

If Your Vehicle Fails

If the vehicle fails, we provide a full itemised report outlining exactly what needs attention. There’s no confusion, pressure or hidden information.

Our mechanics are onsite and can:

  • Explain why the vehicle failed
  • Provide a repair quote
  • Carry out repairs if you choose
  • Re-inspect once repairs are completed

Many issues are minor and can be fixed quickly to help your vehicle pass.

First Roadworthy Inspection? We’ll Talk You Through It

If this is your first roadworthy inspection, we’re here to help. We’ll explain:

  • What’s being checked
  • Why certain items matter
  • How to get a roadworthy certificate
  • What repairs are urgent vs optional

Our goal is to make the process easy to understand, so you can get back on the road with confidence.
